Below are listed just a few of the current activities and recent developments which are fostering meaningful engagement in the life of our community.
2010 Census
Population data gathered from the census is used by the federal government to allocate funds in various areas. The census takes place every 10 years and particpation is required by law. The 2010 Census date is April 1.
Volunteer Online
The United Way of Greater Rochester encourages residents to volunteer time to support local organizations. Active volunteering is made simple with the online Volunteer Connection that allows residents to easily connect with organizations seeking volunteers.Another local effort to enlist volunteers is Rochester Cares, an emerging affiliate of the City Cares / Hands On Network, which strives to bridge the gap between agencies in need and volunteers looking to help out.

Board of Elections Website Adds Online System
To expand voter interest and participation, the Monroe County Board of Elections has created an Online Voter Information system that allows residents to register to vote, request absentee ballots, check current registration information, locate polling places and obtain information on current office holders. In addition, online maps of each town and legislative district allow users to locate voting places.United Way Celebrates 90 Years of Service in Rochester
Begun in 1918 as the Rochester Patriotic and Community Fund, Inc., our community recently celebrated the 90th anniversary of its highly successful United Way. Changing names several times, today's United Way of Greater Rochester continues to be a national leader in meeting high standards for fundraising and community investment.
Grassroots Programs Announce Activities
The City Walk continues its efforts to build social capital through direct connection of people in the community, including its "first Thursday" walks in different parts of the community.
The Downtown Community Forum has announced several 2010 community discussion sessions, including the "Mayor Robert J. Duffy One City Series."
