What does this measure?

Each sector's share of regional employment, as a percentage of total employment in the region.

Why is this important?

The share of employment for a given sector is an indicator on the sector's contribution to the regional economy. The spectrum of sectors also gives insight into the diverse landscape of the regional workforce and economy.

How is our region performing?

The Trade, Transportation, and Utilities sector had the largest share of regional employment at 16% in 2021, with Health Care and Social Assistance and Professional and Business Services both at 13%. From 2001 to 2021, Manufacturing sector shares had the greatest decline in the region at 6 percentage points. Financial Activities gained 3 points followed by Professional and Business Services each gaining 2 points over the same time period.
