High-quality after-school programming provides children with opportunities to develop life, leadership, social, emotional and academic skills. Afterschool programs contribute to greater attendance and achievement in school and offer safe locations for learning and recreation.
In 2016, over 2,000 Rochester students were registered in afterschool programs, up 3% from 2011. The number of program sessions has increased 55% since 2011 to 184,600 in 2016. Average daily attendance was 1,020 in 2016, up 54% from 2011.
Rochester students are in other afterschool programs and settings not included in this data, which only reflects United Way-funded programs. Data were not available for other programs, or for years prior to 2011.
