About Us

ACT Rochester's mission is to change the culture of community problem-solving and associated decision making through the use of credible, independent and timely data. This is accomplished when people LEARN about key issues, CONNECT with others in the community, and ACT to promote change.

A community indicators program of the Rochester Area Community Foundation and the United Way of Greater Rochester, ACT Rochester provides an objective assessment of the area's seven county region's performance on key indicators of well-being. The website creates a "one stop shop" for data and analysis, over 100 indicators, as well as links to more than 300 community initiatives and resources.

ACT Rochester features 12 topic areas most important to the region's vitality on its website: Arts, Culture, and Leisure, Children and Youth, Community Engagement, Economy, Education, Environment, Financial Self-Sufficiency, Health, Housing, Public Safety, Technology, and Transportation. In each category, the most recently available data will show successes and areas for improvement while pointing out disparities and showing trends and comparisons with New York State. Baseline demographic information and county summaries are also available.

Additional financial contributions were made by:

• The Center for Governmental Research, Fund for the Public Interest
• The Gannett Foundation

More than 200 local organizations and many individuals also provided input and guidance into the design of ACT Rochester. These private, governmental, and nonprofit groups gave suggestions for data elements and ways to use ACT Rochester to better our community.

Critical professional services were provided by two local organizations:

• The Center for Governmental Research provided the research and analysis needed to select and present the indicators, charts and trend summaries, as well as the community overview and summaries for each county.

• The Website was designed and developed by ITX, formerly Logical Solutions.

The ACT Rochester website includes links to many local, regional and national organizations and data sources. ACT Rochester provides these links as a convenience, but does not necessarily endorse the organizations involved or their programs, nor can it affirm the accuracy of information in linked sites.

All photos on the Website were generously provided by many individuals and organizations from across the ACT Rochester region. If you have photos illustrating the subject areas or counties that you would like us to consider showcasing on the Website, please email to us at actrochester@racf.org.
